About Audrey Mislan

Audrey Mislan Audrey Yow Mislan was born and reared in the small community of Ramseur, North Carolina. She grew up in a family surrounded by a mother and grandmother who practiced traditional arts and crafts, such as quilting, embroidery, crocheting, and knitting. As a child, she explored a variety of arts and crafts. Audrey completed high school and entered the work force, but continued to develop her artistic style and founded her own business, Mystic Images in 1983. She produced a wide variety of arts and crafts, which she sold at street fairs and through private sales. In the early nineties, Audrey underwent two hand surgeries. These surgeries forced her to reconsider career options. She enrolled in college and began her formal study of art. In 1994, Audrey graduated Magna Cum Laude with an Associate in Fine Arts degree from Sandhills Community College in Pinehurst, North Carolina. She decided to further her education by pursuing an art education degree. Audrey graduated Summa Cum Laude from UNC-Pembroke in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education. From 2003-2013, Audrey held National Board Certification in Early and Middle Childhood Art. Audrey received a Masters in Art Education through East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina in December, 2005. Audrey currently resides in Central Florida teaching art and design classes at a private university in central Florida. She has also taught art lessons privately, and papercrafting classes at “KT Designs” in Clemmons, North Carolina and AC Moore in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Audrey continues to sell her designs and artwork through private sales, shows, and via the internet through an online website. Her current focuses are mixed media collage pieces, digital photography, altered art, art journaling, handmade books, beadwork, and jewelry. The collage pieces and handmade books combine unique papers and imagery with fascinating fibers, beaded tapestries, and embellishments. Inspiration is drawn from ethnic cultures, nature, and earth-based religions, the supernatural, paranormal, and mythology. Hallmarks for her artwork are bold patterns, unique color combinations, fantasy and gothic imagery, and varied textures. She has won several awards for her artwork in national competitions and local shows
